What does a swaddle do?

When our babies are in our womb, they experience a sense of security and comfort in the snug, confined space. Swaddling mimics this snug environment, providing newborns with a familiar sense of safety after birth. Additionally, the snugness of a swaddle aids in soothing the Moro reflex, allowing babies to relax and sleep more peacefully.

Swaddles are specially designed cloths that offer a snug and secure wrap for your little one, providing a comforting environment akin to being in the womb. This gentle wrapping helps prevent your baby's arms or legs from flailing, reducing the startle reflex that can disrupt their sleep. By keeping your baby snug and cozy, swaddles help maintain a comfortable body temperature, ensuring your little bundle of joy sleeps soundly and peacefully without the discomfort of sudden movements. Swaddling can be an effective technique to help calm infants and promote sleep. Studies also indicate that swaddling contributes to enhanced neuromuscular development, reduced crying, and pain relief for infants.

How do bamboo swaddles contribute to better sleep for babies?

Designed to mimic the warm embrace of the womb, swaddles offer a sense of security and comfort that both babies and parents adore. But not all swaddles are created equal. Here at The Green Edit, our bamboo swaddles are soft, breathable, and oh-so-gentle on delicate baby skin. Whether you're a first-time parent navigating the joys of newborn sleep or a seasoned pro looking for the perfect baby shower gift, our bamboo swaddles are a must-have for every nursery. Say hello to sweet dreams and goodbye to sleepless nights with our irresistibly cozy swaddles!

Benefits of bamboo swaddles

Bamboo swaddles offer several advantages for babies compared to cotton and muslin swaddles. Bamboo swaddles are incredibly soft and gentle on baby's delicate skin, providing a cozy and comfortable environment for sleep. Additionally, bamboo fabric is known for its naturally breathable properties, allowing for optimal airflow and temperature regulation to prevent overheating, which is especially important in warmer climates like Singapore. Bamboo fabric is also hypoallergenic and antibacterial, reducing the risk of irritation or allergies for sensitive little ones. The last but not least (not to mention life-changing), is the stretchiness of bamboo fabric that allows babies to move freely without compromising on the swaddle coming undone, ensuring they stay snug and secure throughout the night. Overall, bamboo swaddles provide a luxurious and nurturing experience for babies, ensuring they feel safe, comfortable, and content while they rest.

Should I swaddle my baby in Singapore's hot weather?

Yes, you can still swaddle your baby in hot weather, but it's essential to choose the right swaddle blanket and dress them appropriately. Opt for lightweight, breathable fabrics like bamboo, which allow for good airflow and reduce the risk of overheating. Dress your baby in a lightweight bamboo kimono onesie or bodysuit to ensure their delicate skin can breathe. Monitor their temperature by gently feeling their ears, neck, and cheeks. If they start sweating, remove a layer. Keep the room comfortably cool between about 24-25°C (75°F to 77°F) with air conditioning or fans. By finding the perfect balance between comfort and safety, swaddling can provide your baby with the comfort and security they need to sleep well even in the Singapore's weather.

Newborn checklist: what you need before baby arrives

Among all the to-dos when prepping for baby’s arrival, shopping for baby essentials is probably the best part. And don't be surprised at the amount of baby clothing a newborn needs (or can have)!

Baby nursery essentials include a cot or bassinet (although we would recommend going with the cot for longer milage), a firm mattress that fits snugly in the cot, 2-4 fitted cot sheets, baby monitor, diaper changing table (optional), white noise machine (optional), humidifier (optional).

Baby wardrobe essentials include 4-8 onsies (kimono-style with snaps at the crotch or zippies), 4-8 one-piece pyjamas (aka baby sleepsuits - options with zips and foldover mittens and footies are great options), 4-8 pants, 1-3 dress-up outfits for special occasions, 4-7 pairs of socks, and 2-4 swaddles.

Baby diapering essentials include newborn-size diapers (they go through about 8-10pieces a day but they quickly outgrow newborn-size diapers at the end of month 1 or 2), unscented baby wet wipes and diaper cream.
