Most sleep consultants support the use of a comforter / sleep prop / security blanket without supervision in the cot from 7 months. It is a good idea prior to this to introduce the comforter blanket to your baby's night time routine (during feeding and or bed-time story) from the very beginning, so that both of you get used to at every sleep. You can then remove it from the cot prior to 7 months of age.
